Excellent battery Feb 13, 2008
By Stanley C. Hui Good quality drill with light weight and long battery power. The only complaint that i had is the chuck. It seems to have a slight wobble. Otherwise it will be a five stars

The Featherweight Champion Mar 26, 2008
By W. OConnor Don't take this tool to be more than it is; a 3/8in medium duty drill driver, but it is a featherweight delight to use. I have driven #4 screws into oak with very steady positive control, and drilled sizable holes in a concrete wall to receive anchors. Its going to be hard for my other five drills to get my attention.

Good value, but bad chuck Apr 26, 2008

I have had this drill for about 4 months now, I like using it, but when I try and use a bit that does have flat sides, ie a smaller than 1/4 it is impossible to get the chuck tight enough to properly hold the bit. Other than that it is a good product.

One bad battery, otherwise great Nov 26, 2009

I purchased this because I have the previous 14v. drill from Hitachi. The batteries were quite old and not holding a charge, so time to upgrade. The new Lithium batteries are compatible with the old drill, so >bonus< two drills for the price of one.
Great torque and speed. Great improvement over the old model. Highly recommend this for any DIY guy.
One problem -- one battery pack doesn't hold a charge. It is being repaired now (hopefully free) by a Hitachi repair shop.

Great for homeowner Jun 19, 2008
By David E. I have had a Makita 9.6v for years. Excellent drill but nicad batteries were the weak spot. As a home owner, I only use it occasionally and of course want it ready to go when needed. Nicads are miserable in this aspect. LithiumIon will hold a charge for much longer and their useful life is much longer. Makita and others are very pricey compared to Hitachi (for my needs). Hitachi gets deeply discounted several times a year where others are not. If you wait and watch for the sales you can get a great deal. This drill feels good in the hand, size, balance and weight. Plenty of torque for all a 3/8 drill is meant to do. With two batteries, I'd be hard pressed to ever run out of juice. I imagine a professional with heavy duty needs would want a drill meant for that kind of use with bigger/heavier batteries. Oh, it has a 5 year warranty too!
