| | Description | The award winning cybernetic engineering design on Hitachi's new DH40MR has raised the bar for concrete drilling rotary hammers. The cybernetic design increases impact energy to 10 joules or 7.93 ft./lbs., while decreasing vibration and noise levels. This double insulated 1-9/16-inch rotary hammer has 12 different angles you can lock the bit into for demolition work. Variable speed dial controls RPM from 240-480. Maximum core bit diameter is 4-1/8 inch while the tool only weighs 6.5 pounds. The DH40MR comes complete with case and lubrication grease. | |

Hunky Hammer! Aug 30, 2006
By Paul Harrelson
"mikey01h"
Previous to purchasing this drill, I had been using a friends Bosch 11236 SDS hammer drill. I found myself needing to borrow it with increasing frequency and decided it was time to get one.
After evaluating reviews and my budget, I decided on the DH40MR. This drill is a SDS MAX and cannot be fairly compared to my friends Bosch 11236 SDS, but the price difference when shopping was only about 15%. The difference in performance however was phenomenal, after using the DH40MR it's difficult to consider the Bosch 11236 as much of a hammer drill.
The drill is very, very powerful and I have learned the hard way to brace myself while drilling. The chipper and/or hammer works extremely well and can crack 4" 2500 PSI concrete in seconds. One draw-back I have found is the drill bit and/or chisel can get stuck and this drill has NO reverse. The bit or chisel must be broken loose.
Initially I didn't realize the SDS MAX was not compatible for the SDS bits, and all the SDS bits previously purchased would not fit. Later I found a SDS MAX to SDS adapter and can now use SDS and SDS MAX.
The DH40MR also gives me the capacity to drill larger holes. 1-1/2" drill bit and 4" core bit. Vibration is low considering the power output. Rather heavy to lug around but the weight comes in handy when drilling or hammering. There is NO "drill only" feature on this drill, but haven't had a "drill only" application.
This drill is not cheap and good bits are expensive, but it can save lots of time...

Great Tool Feb 24, 2008
By Peter L. Powers This is my second of this same model. I would not buy anything different for the medium size applications. Can handle the large jobs but I don't use it for that very often. Compact design lets me use the tool where bigger bulkier tools are difficult to use. IE under floors in crawlspaces, etc. Highly recommedn this tool for the general contractor.

Nifty Hammer Jun 19, 2007
By Barry A. Mason I'm a general contractor and have been looking for a good demo hammer which is both powerful and easy to handle. So far I used the hammer on two jobs (one for boring hole into concrete and the other chipping concrete) and am very satisfied.

competent Sep 24, 2007
By blekenbleu I used this to drill 3.5-inch holes in a cinder block wall,
using a Milwaukee LHS core bit. The DH40MR is completely overkill for such an application, giving absolutely no indication of strain and getting barely warm.
