You can't beat this tool for the price Aug 09, 2010 I have owned a small paintball shop for over 10 years. Before this I was an electronic bench technician working on electronic music equipment. At that time I was using a Skil electronic screwdriver Skil for whatever reason changed the design and the new design was junk. I had my driver repaired until I could no longer get parts. I did not think that I would ever find another like it because folks were using the hand held drills.
Then I saw the Hitachi and took a chance. I could not believe it. This driver was every bit as good as my Skil and better. Working on paintball markers involves removing and replacing lots and lots of screws. The hand held drills I tried were too heavy and difficult to position. The Hitachi on the other hand is light, very flexible, has more than enough torque, small size, and very convenient. I could work and put the driver right in the middle of my workspace and it would not interfere. I used this drill every day for over 6 years. Never had a single problem.
So you are asking why am I buying another?
Well, I was using it one day and I dropped it onto a ceramic floor like I had done literally hundreds of times before. Only this time it was dead. I was so totally convinced that this tool was so well designed and constructed that I decided to repair it myself. I took it apart, found a broken wire caused by the fall and reassembled it, and it worked! I was floored, it still performed as it did right out of the box. However I decided that I would purchase another because of the down time when my original was out of service due to my clumsiness, and out of a fear that they might change the design as Skil had and I know that this driver will last beyond 10 years of continuous use. For what I use it for it is THE perfect tool.
If I had to question one part of the driver is it comes with a little light that is of little use. However I have never had to use it in the dark. You absolutely cannot go wrong purchasing this tool if you understand it is not meant to take the place of a hand held drill.
Superb, compact, mid-level torque driver Jul 29, 2010 This is the second of these screwdrivers I've owned. I loved the first, too, but surviving a two story fall onto concrete is asking too much of it. I'm building my own home and have used this mostly for electrical work. It's easy to carry around in a tool belt and has plenty of torque, control, and clutch settings for everything at this level. If you need to drive large screws, get an impact driver. For boxes full of drywall screws, this will work but not for any significant quantity of screws. I tried doing without it after the first one took a fall, but finally realized how much time and effort it saved. Thanks Hitachi for another great tool!
Very light,Long time Bettery Jul 16, 2010 Very handy.
I use a lot of time to take off or in screws.
I bought this one and Millwaukee 4V,they both were good.
Millwaukee is stronger and loger bettery time, but much havier and it doesn't have a light.
This hitach has a small LED light,it's very helpful when we use dark area.
I used have 2.4v Panasonic (it was about $180),now I put it away.
Price is also wonderful and it came with 2 betteries.
I have been using this about 1 year already.
I strongly recommend if someone want light screw driver.
Make sure that this is not for havy duty, you will need higher voltage driver for havy duty.

Hitachi: good screwdriver, but don't drop it...not ruggedized. Jun 14, 2010 I've bought over 10 of these for use in teardown of aviation electronics equipment in our facility. The techs really love them compared ot the older ones we had (28 years ago all I had was a screwdriver!) Consequently, I think they are pretty well made with good life in the batteries and reasonable torque for any handyperson.
The only two failures we've experienced are after two were accidently dropped about 3-4 feet. The on/off switch became intermittent in one and the other would only work when used at a certain "angle". In both cases, this voided the warranty. I took one apart...that was a mistake.
My final verdict: good screwdriver...feels good in the hand...fairly light...good torque...love the LED light...but don't drop it!
All the best!

Awesome awesome awesome May 16, 2010 I bought this hitachi db3dl for my hobby (rc car racing, w/ integy quickpit tips) and it's like having a NASCAR pit crew with this machine. Fast, torque limiting, light, portable...you name it. And I've started using it around the house and this is just the best thing I never knew I should have. But I'll say that the price ($63 on amazon) and the fast shipping was shocking for such a good piece. Nobody in Hawaii carried it so amazon came thru again.
