Very disappointed Sep 02, 2010 Have owned this for two years, and I'm kicking myself everyday that I didn't pay the extra for the bosch with the excellent reviews. The blade falls out every other cut and I'm not even sure why, sometimes the whole quick change unit falls out and has to be reinstalled.
Sweeeeet. Apr 29, 2010 After several disappointing tries with other brands and older saws, I had pretty much given up on jigsaws in general. Trouble is, there really isn't any other tool for cutting canoe and kayak forms, so based on my previous experience with Hitachi tools I took a chance on this one and oh man, was my faith restored. Blade installation was easy, speed adjustment was smooth, and when I went to cut my 3/4"plywood forms, it blasted through like a laser. Straight cuts went almost as smooth, straight, and fast as I can do with a circular saw, and it sailed around curves like nobody's business. Just for fun, I trimmed some aluminum sheets too- Not a single hiccup in 8 straight hours, and now I'm looking for more projects. This saw is an excellent choice.
Excellent Jig Saw Mar 06, 2010 I bought this jig saw a few months ago and finally had an opportunity to use it yesterday when I was building my work bench. The saw performed flawlessly throughout the project. For the money I think its the best jig saw on the market, bar none.
Fussy blade changing. Poorly aligned blade Feb 05, 2010 The blade changing is more complicated and fussy in this saw, and the mechanism has plastic components that could break. On mine the blade didn't line up with the guide roller very well. It wanted to go on the shoulder--not in the groove--when you first put the blade in. You can push it in, but it rides against the side of the groove almost binding. Maybe this was just a defect with mine. Otherwise it is great. Nice cast shoe. Great light and blower. The trigger is not variable, just the dial. I took it back and got a Bosch compact for the same price--very easy blade change, vac hook-up, and variable trigger, but stamped shoe and no light. I like it much better. Neither have a laser, but that is just eye candy on cheaper saws. It servers no real function on a jig saw. Speaking of eye candy, who designs Hitachi tools. They look like kids running shoes. Seriously though, I have had good experience with Hitachi product in general. I have a siding nailer, a miter saw and a random orbit sander--all good tools.

Nice jig Jul 10, 2009 I am recently retired and I have a few home repair projects going on. I needed a new Jig Saw and didn't want to spend a bunch of money. This doesn't have all the bell and whistles, but who the heck needs all that. For an around the house, do a great job, great handling jig saw, this Hitachi fits the bill. I am very happy with this purchase.
