worth to buy Feb 08, 2010 This is very good saw, easy to use, works fine. The slight problem is fixing the piece of wood in place, especially for small one

Poor quality saw Jan 31, 2010 I assembled the saw very easily. Good directions and easy to follow. The saw out of the box had a very noisy motor. I removed the brushes and found the armature with some scoring. I buffed the armature and smoothed the brushes. This did little to quiet the motor. It is still very noisy. The cut was reasonably smooth after I replaced the blade with a Freud cutoff blade. I have made about 2000 cuts so far in dry hardwood. I am not impressed with the overall quality of the saw considering that this is supposed to be a high quality saw. I won't be buying another Hitachi product if this what they think is acceptable.

Good saw for the price Nov 30, 2009 In short this is a nice low-price saw that is quite useful for smaller projects and short term usage. It is precise, light and has decent power for cutting through laminate or hard wood. I don't think it is the right tool if you are a power user and intend to use it daily for weeks or months.
If I could I would give it 3 and a half stars.
Pros:
- good price
- powerful engine
- precise with wide angle and acceptable bevel
- lightweight which is good if it has to be mobile
- laser (although scarcely visible in daylight)
Cons:
- comes with a poor saw blade
- poor work piece hold down
- pretty loud (but I guess that is the case with all of them)
- when the bevel is set to the max (45 degree) the blade cuts into the plastic at the bottom
- (the maximum cut length it something around 5''-6'')
I bought this saw for a laminate flooring project and used it in the last weeks intensively including cutting non 90 degree angles and miter cuts for baseboards.
The saw fulfilled the task more or less.
Even when the saw blade gets weak the powerful engine still gets the job done. The saw can be adjusted up to an angles of 50 degree in both directions so that you can cut boards precisely even when the walls have strong angles. It is also very precise and if you get a good saw blade it cuts the laminate boards without damaging the surface at all. I would have liked to have a little bit more flexibility with the bevel. When doing miter cuts for sharp angled corners the 45 degrees will not be sufficient and you have to use the coping saw.
Furthermore the maximum cut length is about 5''-6''. If you have very wide laminate boards of more than 10'' width (which I luckily did not have) the saw is probably useless. Lengthwise cuts are impossible anyway. I do not count this as a weakness in this product review because I could have forseen this problem (after all this is a 10'' saw).
The saw is pretty loud and I strongly suggest to use ear plugs unless you are keen on damaging your hearing (I had a ringing in my ears for a night). I do not know if more expensive tools produce less noise.
It also produces an enormous amount of dirt (the dirt bag is more or less useless) but I would not count this as a weakness because I doubt that any tool will do better. I strongly recommend to cut outdoors or the garage and to use a breathing mask and completely closed protection glasses (the type that look similar to skiing goggles).
Recommendations:
Would I recommend the saw in general?
Probably yes because of the good performance considering the price. However I am not sure if the saw is precise enough for carpentry work.
Would I recommend the saw for a wood floor/ laminate floor project?
Probably not because the 10'' blade does not offer sufficient range. At least I would opt for a sliding saw. But then again you have to invest more money.

Very usable and easy to set up Sep 28, 2009 This is my very first time posting a review for a consumer product. I have been doing a lot of reading of consumer's review on consumer products and thought it's only fair if I contribute back to the internet community where I have benefited so much from. Anyways, on with the review.
This is my very first miter saw ever. I don't have anything else to compare it against, but I have read enough reviews on other makes to have a general idea. Got this saw at Lowe's on sale for $129.00.
Set up: The owner's manual was of very little use but it does have useful information. Being a DIY kind of guy, I quickly figured it out. I was looking in the manual for mainly safety tips.
Features: This saw is an entry level saw and all the basic features are there such as miter and bevel cuts. The laser though can stand to be brighter. It was extremely hard to see in bright day light. But, once you can see where the laser is pointing to, it is useful as a guide to where the blade will cut. The wood clamp is a little short if you're cutting a 2x4 and it's on sitting flat on the base. The clamp barely reaches it.
Materials: The fence and base is made of aluminum so it's sturdy enough. All of the parts on the saw seem sturdy and sure.
Usage: It's very easy to use, even for a first timer like myself. It took a few minutes for me to figure out where things are (both looking at the saw and reading various parts of the owner's manual).
Performance: The motor is powerful enough and the included blade cuts well. A more expensive blade (with more teeth and hardened metal) should be used should one need to make extremely neat and clean cuts.
Saw dust: The dust bag isn't very good at catching all of the saw dust and my observation fits with others' reviews.
Overall, I would give it 4 1/2 stars for price, performance, and ease of use. I finished building my chicken coupe with confidence all in one afternoon!

Not bad for the Price Apr 21, 2009 It's a pretty good saw for the price. It has a few shoddy parts like the mounting for the sub fence and the hold down clamp. Not sure what that sub fence does, but the instructions are wrong and tell you to mount it on the wrong side. It goes on the left and does not mount flush. I think I will remove it. The assembly instructions are poor. You have to puzzle through them and infer what they are getting at. The motor is a goer and seems to have plenty of power. The laser line was off about 1 degree with the fence; had to adjust it and the 0 degree position.
Due its size and the way the saw works, it will only cut a board 5-6 inches wide in one pass. Not really a replacement for my table saw, but good for quick cuts on molding and picture frames.
If you want a better saw, you will have to pay up to $3-500 for the little details. But this one is fine for the casual home user.
