Buyer Beware Apr 26, 2008

I recently purchased this Hitachi #725786 29 ½" extension for my SDS Plus Hammer Drill. What I thought I was buying was an extension for my drill bits to go drill deeper holes. I was aware that because of the extension flange it will accommodate drill bits over 1 1/8" wide.
What I received was and what the item is was a 29 ½" extension. The top of the extension is a male SDS PLUS shank. The bottom of the extension is a male SDS MAX shank. In order to make the extension functional you must buy the Hitachi #725780 Quick Change Rotary Drilling Adapter that cost over $200.00. The quick lock adapter makes it then possible to then accommodate ONLY SDS MAX Drill Bits. My collection of drill bits are SDS Plus. I am not going to spend an additional $200.00 to make this item functional and then I would have to buy all new SDS MAX Drill bits. Some of my SDS Plus drill bits cost in excess of $100.00 each. My mistake was that I should have verified the extension adapter features on the Hitachi website. For the most part Amazon is VERY accurate in their product descriptions. This is the first item out of almost 200 products that I have purchased from Amazon that has not had an accurate description.
