5Well designed tool that does a great job  Jan 17, 2012 By Riddler
I bought this saw as a companion to my Hitachi 12 volt cordless mini grinder, which uses the same battery. I have a corded recip saw, but using it for outdoor projects is sometimes not convenient. My plan was to use this saw for things like pruning trees and bushes, as well as cutting up anything I wanted to easily dispose of in a trash can. Today I gave it a real test, using it to cut kindling for my wood stove. After cutting some pieces with it, I got out my chainsaw to cut up an an 8' dogwood tree that had fallen in the woods. Well, my chainsaw refused to start, so I cut up this 5" diameter tree with the Hitachi. I was amazed at how well it handled this pretty tough task, and I am certainly glad that I made this purchase. I am sure it will perform well with any task I throw at it, and it handles much better than a conventional recip saw. It is also much lighter and more maneuverable. Its only weakness is that it is battery powered, so battery changes are part of using it for lengthy projects. In fact, I recommend having at least one spare battery if you are doing serious projects. The 40 minute charge time is a big help, but heavy use can limit work time to less than that.
