I was working on some serious door building when my ancient (circa 1982) corded jigsaw gave up the ghost and died mid-project. Having just purchased a complete set of cordless Hitachi tools, I thought this jigsaw would be a nice addition.
PROS--well balanced, nice sole plate, comfortable grip.
CONS--annoying little plastic shield (what it's for I have no idea, but removing it solved the issue of sawdust quickly clouding it). My other con is this beast absolutely sucks down the energy from the battery pack. Solved the problem by using the larger battery.
If you need the power of a corded jigsaw with the flexibility of a cordless, this is for you.

If you are considering ANY of these series of cordless tools, save yourself some money and buy the entire 900 dollar kit. I bought all of them little by little and should have just bought the whole kit in the first place. These tools are AWESOME!!!

If you already have Hitachi batteries, this is a very useful and spunky addition to your toolset. I use it (armed with tough Bosch blades like the Bosch T234X Progressor Wood Blade) to cut up kindling for my woodstove. It has a lot of power and remarkably little vibration.
Only downside is that the base plate of the saw appears to be composed of a not very sturdy metal. It seems to be some kind of easily cast alloy or pot metal, which broke into two pieces within two weeks on ownership. Although the tool comes with a lifetime warranty, the steps needed to fulfill the warranty (namely, shipping the entire tool back to Hitachi) are not worth the trouble, IMHO.
Fortunately, I could buy a replacement base quickly and easily through an Amazon merchant: BASE CJ120V CJ110VM CJ18DL Hitachi Replacement Part # 321573.

works great, but splinter guard broke immediatly, It gobbled it up and it took me a while to pry it out. but the tool itself wasnt damaged so it can take some abuse. the EBM1830 batteries i didnt like at first, but now i beleive the EBM1830 batteries to be superior to the BSL1830x batteries, the newer slide battery tools you find at lowes and homedepot. why they even started making new batteries that are less universal is beyond me.

We used this to prep for Burning Man and never found anything it wouldn't cut through almost instantly. Love the quick change blade system! Very solid contraction and well balanced for easy, quick use!
