Pretty light for an 18 volt, but meaty and powerful Mar 03, 2010 I already owned the 3 piece hammer drill, recip saw, and fluorescent light with 2 batteries and bag. Awesome kit. This little saw was the icing on the cake. I do commercial mechanical work and use them a lot plus use them working on the house. They are well balanced and powerful tools.
The saw matches the power and quality as the rest of the tools. It is powerful and holds up well through a lot of cutting. The light on the saw comes in handy and is a nice thing to have. The 18 volt lithium batteries last a very long time.
My very first cordless drill was a Hitachi 7.2 volt I bought around 1982. It held up great until it fell off an 8 foot ladder. As far as cordless, I've owned Hitachi, Makita, Ridgid, Black & Decker, and Dewalt.
I would definitely recommend this saw and any of the Hitachi tools.
Powerful portable saw Jan 12, 2010 Having used a circluar saw for many years I am excited to get this DC saw out to the deer camp. The workman ship looks good and the power is amazing. Since purchasing the saw (without battery) to match my Hitachi cordless drill I also purchased a 3.0 amp-hour battery for the pair. This saw is perfect for trimming up a project without the hassle of stringing out cords then being tied to that spot. Now I can go deep into the woods to build or repair my deer stands with ease.

The only battery powered circular saw to buy Oct 23, 2009 I bought this after reading a review of battery powered tools in Consumer Reports. This was the top rated 18v drill as well as the only circular saw that they recommended. I previously had a Skill brand circular saw and it did pretty well but this one is amazing. I recently had to replace the floor on a deck because of rotting. I used this saw all day on pressure treated 2X6 lumber. Not only did it cut like butter, but I had to rip a 16 ft piece at the end of the day and it performed well.
I had not used Hitachi because of the weird look previously but with Consumer Reports recommendation and my experience, I give it two thumbs up.
Oh yes, it works great if you are left handed as I am. It has a safety button that can be depressed using either hand.

Does the job Sep 03, 2009 Just weekend use. The Li batteries that can be used with this saw give it its power and I couldn't image using the older nicads. The little light makes cuts easier to line up with your marks. Overall it does its job for cuts that you don't want to drag out the corded saw or are too inept to operate a hand saw. I'm using it to cut installed siding in awkward positions but find it comes in useful when you need that 2x cut quickly. I plan to also use it to cut sheet goods - we'll see if I can get the tilt alignment dialed in. The guard and stamped metal frame instill little confidence in its durability and it doesn't match the quality of Hitachi's 18V drill/drivers. I got this saw to fill out my reconditioned 18V set. Overall, no problems with this saw but again its not used every day and no precision work at this point.

No "Bog Down"! Battery life is great for a corded circular saw! May 30, 2009 First off, NO "bog down" when ripping 2 x 10 x 12's. I'm adding to the length of my deck and this baby has been used. I've made multiple rips on 2x10x12's and 6x6 treated posts AND using a drill concrete mixer attachment to mix concrete for footings ALL WITH ONE BATTERY (3 AMP HR LITHIUM-ION BATTERY THAT IS)!
A friend of mine that is a handyman by trade came by and was seriously impressed with how many rips we were making on the 2x10's when he was there. We cut (12) 2x10's with no problem. At first, when I told him about the Hitachi's ability to do all of this on one battery, he had that "yea right' look on his face. He's a corded guy.
The hitachi circular saw changed his mind! Now keep in mind, the blade is only 6.5. BUT, it cut through the 6x6 treated post easily (cut 4 pieces), then used a hand saw to cut through the middle (easy).
Don't know how it does with the 1.5 amp hr battery. Probably not as good. The charger takes about 45 minutes to recharge a battery right after it has been in use. I've got two and I've never run out of juice in the replacement while the other was charging. Haven't even worried about it...
